October 2018

Dear Members and Friends of VP,

For the first time in years we have launched Home Groups for the members and friends of Valley Park. I am hoping the Home Groups will also be a place where we can invite people who do not know Christ or do not have a church they attend. Visiting someone’s home is typically a more comfortable first exposure to Christianity and the church than actually attending a church service. My hope is that the Home Groups will be a healthy way to build our Christian “oneness” and a healthy outreach of Valley Park.

There are three Home Groups. They started the first week of October and run through to the week before Thanksgiving. Whether or not you signed up for a Home Group, you are welcome to attend any group at any time.

The studies involve the top 7 teachings of Jesus Christ for His followers. Each study covers the same topic so that every Home Group is studying the same thing. The study will be followed by my Sunday sermon which will elaborate on the topic studied. I am very excited that so many of us are investing time into studying the most important teachings of Jesus Christ.

I sincerely believe Valley Park is honoring Jesus Christ in the many things we do. We have multiple studies during the week where members and friends are learning God’s Word. Our emphasis upon actually knowing Jesus Christ is justified by the fact that He is the “Living” Word of God that transforms our lives from the inside out. Consider the following passages:

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:12-13

“For you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.” I Peter 1:23

“Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,” I Peter 2:2

It is exciting to have a resource for spiritual growth that is able to accomplish the transformation of our lives. The “Living” Word of God can do in us what we cannot do in ourselves. There is a supernatural transformational power that is available in knowing and understanding Jesus Christ. We are challenged, encouraged, convicted and changed by drawing close to Him. Jesus communicated the value of knowing Him on the night before He died.

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.” Hebrews 1:1-3

Home groups provide an opportunity that each and every one of us needs. If you want to visit a group in the next week, directions are as follows:
Call the Church Office or Pastor Kevyn or Check the Book Table after church for Home Group Locations!

In all we do to grow in Christ and honor Him in our lives, may God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit be honored. Let us live to make Him proud.
