Dear Members and Friends of VPC,
I am very encouraged about our life groups. There have been healthy gatherings of 6 to 10 people per group in six separate groups. I believe the studies are very meaningful. Considering close to 40 members and friends of the church are involved, I believe we are close to 40% of church family commitment. That is a healthy representation of our church and its commitment to loving and serving one another as we grow in maturity “in Christ” together.
My prayer and the encouragement of our family members is that we continue to pray that God expands our ministries in the year to come. That happens as every member of the Body of Christ grows and as God raises up those who are gifted to do things that really promote health and growth. It is in our hands and in the hands of God. God knows what we need, and we are learning to transition from focus on “isolation” to focus on “servanthood” with love of people at the center of our focus.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”
I Corinthians 12:4-7
In referencing those who are gifted, I mean that there are people God has uniquely gifted to minister to the family of God. They do things most of us are able to do, if necessary, but we recognize that they are exceptionally effective. It could be leadership in music, teaching the Word of God, counselling or encouraging, sharing wisdom, etc. They are the gifts of the Spirit as identified in Romans 12, I Corinthians 12 and 14 and Ephesians 4. Paul observed varying types of gifts evident in churches in the three different cities to whom these letters were written. Gifted people are noticed by their ability to touch lives in more meaningful ways than many others. I believe Valley Park could be blessed by a few new and exceptionally gifted servants of God. Why not? It is in His hands.
I am excited about the future of Valley Park. I believe God is going to expand our ministries and our effectiveness in our community. Let’s continue to pray precisely for Valley Park. We also need to keep the people of Ukraine in our prayers. It is discouraging to see what people will do against humanity when they do not have God in their lives.
